NASA's James Webb Telescope Discovers New Earth-Like Exoplanet

Mar 22, 2026

Scientists using the James Webb Space Telescope have identified a rocky exoplanet orbiting within the habitable zone of a nearby star system, just 42 light-years from Earth.

The planet, designated JWST-2026b, has an atmosphere containing water vapor and carbon dioxide — key indicators that liquid water could exist on its surface. This marks the most promising candidate for habitability ever discovered.

The discovery has energized the scientific community and renewed calls for increased funding for space exploration and the development of next-generation telescopes capable of detecting biosignatures on distant worlds.
